Well, we do use an embedded player. Check out this URL for a (dutch only) videoblog on a conference I attended. The player is flashbased and built inhouse at our agency. On the frontpage of out log we don;t have any video, but we use the word "video" to emphasise there is video with a post.

Loading the embedded player takes up a lot of time on slower computers.
Especially when you have lots of videos on one page. With that said: I
prefer embedded players by a longshot. On my blog I use image links, but
when clicked they turn into an embedded player.
