Yeah, that is annoying but it is not nearly as bad as when you go to a vlog's homepage that has every posts loading an embedded video. That is cause for an instant click on stop and back.
Most blogging software supports a post summary and a post body. We use the summary on all non-post pages as well as our feed. It includes a photo and teaser text that link to the post. The post body is displayed only on the individual post page and includes the embedded video and the same teaser text, along with an extra content. Oh, and we use a JavaScript function to write out the video code because it helps to avoids invalid XHTML. I'm working on building a separate CMS to allow extra content to be associated with WordPress posts. For example, I'd like to associate a video, a photo thumbnail, a larger photo, amazon products, etc. The cool part is that the hand-coding of photos and embedded video could be dynamically generated from the new CMS.
