Thanks for your responses thus far; now that you've mentioned 3ivx, I believe I'll give that a try.  I still haven't tested FFmpeg yet, though I plan to (as soon as I remember how to compile/make an installation of the program).  You're saying that's somewhat slow too, though, huh?  Dang...

Will poor resolution (webcam capture) typically encode slower or faster (than higher-quality resolution source recordings)?
