I have the Xacti C5 and I love it. At full quality and in good light the quality is (this is very subjective) maybe 90% of a cheap DV camera. It goes downhill pretty quickly in low light.

It has a 5X optical zoom which is pretty decent.

The image stabilzation is suprizingly good.

Compared to other digital still cameras, what I like about the Xacti is it's flip out screen and the amount of video that you can record on it. At the highest quality 640 X 480, 30 fps, it can capture 41 minutes on a 1GB card. If I switch it to 320 X 240, 15 fps, it can hold 3 hours and 50 minutes! In comparison, I asked Steve Garfield how much his Canon Powershot holds and he said it holds about 30 minutes at 320 X 240, 15fps.

I have two batteries which each last a little over an hour.

Best of all - though this is no different from others like the Powershot - it fits in my pocket so I take with me everywhere.

It takes decent, 5 MP still pictures. I've seen better and I've seen worse. You can see my photos on my Flickr page <URL: http://www.flickr.com/photos/verdi/ > . Note that some of those pictures are from my Treo - they're obiously crappy.

Downsides:
The mic will pick up some noise from the auto focus and zoom motor. It has a pretty easy to use manual focus menu that I use a lot to prevent this.

My biggest gripe about it is that the audio always seems out of sync. I found that pushing the audio track forward 5 frames solves this but it's an annoying workaround.

How much quality am I going to lose by trading my dv in, really? Is anyone with those
cameras disappointed? Ever say "Damn, I wish I had a light!" or

"Crap! My zoom stinks!" or

"My hands are too big for this midgety camera" or

"I wish I had hard tape copies of raw footage" or

"it's so small I accidentally flushed it down the toilet" or

"Everything sounds like it's in a fishbowl" or, MOST importantly

"The image stabilizer on this thing blows!" (I'm a little shakeyshakey).

Any other similar (and mac-friendly, USB or FireWire) cameras you'd suggest? Any?

(anyone want to buy an Optura 60? Very Nice camera, my friend--for you I make good
price!)

Kisses & Much Thanks,
