Well with data rate set to automatic like it is in that tutorial I can't see how you'll end up with low bit rates. Automatic data rate means the codec will use however much data it needs to maintain a certain quality. So at any given time (like a fast motion sequence) it can shoot way up.
Ryanne and I are right in the middle of writing the compression chapter of our book. Expect some new tutorials over at Freevlog when we're done.
