Of course, now that I've hit send, I remembered the site that billed a
couple of vloggers a few hundred bucks.  Freeplay Music.

It's site that many might initially assume was offering music for free for
non-commercial purposes (especially given the name), but in fact was not
(or, at least, was not for web publishing, which was a separate, paid
license).  So if you're looking for free and/or total clearances, scratch
them off your list.

Even sites that are listed as sources for CC-licensed material require some
care in selecting artists and pieces, as there are CC licenses that are
more restrictive than others (and I've seen some that invoke traditional
copyright).
