Hi Duncan

I wondered if you watched the quicktime version or the flash 7 version.  I set my Sharp Video recorder to Super VHS mode and set the dvd to full quality and ripped at mp4, however the  VHS copy, which, lets face it isn't the same quality as DV, this is the best you are gonna get.  You can monkey around then with the functions and sharpening qualities as some video editting systems you use, but the original is gonna be the same as VHS.

If there is a better way, especially for mac I would like to hear it.

the only problem with that paul is that you're losing a lot of quality on the way, alway best to start with the highest quality encoding you've got and miniDV is less compressed than MPEG2  -  plus you need to have a DVD recorder!

be well

I have managed to do it using a dvd recorder, copy the tape onto dvd, finalise the dvd then rip the dvd using handbrake or dv stream and bobs you uncle.  I also advised Bev Sykes to do it this way and she thinks it's great.
