Thanks everyone that responded. 
I'm a Mac Noob so didn't know it wouldn't go away until after emptying
the waste-basket... :)
Regardless, I'll continue with the current method of dragging the
files using Finder and deleting the pictures through the camera itself.

I guess initially I was looking for the special key-combination that
would give the same results as the PC "move" command, that
automatically deletes the source file at completion of the command.
