As far as the topic of cameras.... The term used is normally "Prosumer"
cameras.  It began with mini-dv in the late nineties.  The DV Revolution
began.  As did the debates of film versus digital.   That's the time I
splurged on a "broadcast quality" Canon XL-1 (the best of breed back then).

It was all about 3ccd, lense quality and features.  mini-dv tapes cost
anywhere from $20-$50 believe it or not.

In addition to all the solid references that Brooke Hinton made earlier in
this thread, I was also somewhat inspired by a project called "The Last
Broadcast" which was pre-BWP.
