Ok, it's not HD or close, but the best low light (but also low quality) camera I ever used was an old Sony MiniDV with "super night shot" which used infrared I think. The video's colors were totally tweaked, but you could get content and see details in almost no light, it was amazing.
I'm having no problem editing AVCHD footage shot NOT on HD in Final Cut Express on a three year old Macbook pro. But The HD footage is bulky and takes a lot of extra render time and I agree, is obviously inferior in resolution to tape or P2 type expensive equipment. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~ Caleb J.
