John, I've a feeling that iMovie imported it for editing in MPEG4 format instead of DV. I've once written about how iMovie's MPEG4 video editing format was bullshit, because it took very long to import and quality was lacking (e.g. titles looked bad). Bottomline: Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's way better to have iMovie import/transcode into DV format to keep everything clean.
