Can I just say... in answer to my opinionated and grumpy former self... that I've been watching what people are doing for Vlomo/ navlopomo with their pocket HD cameras, particularly the Zi8, and loving it. Seems to me that having great image quality in your pocket is an incentive for people to carry their camera and use it, photographing moments, diarizing life - which is something that most vloggers seemed to stop doing for a while.
