We did this routinely for a satellite program, but limited the faculty to
shorter period of time, not the entire semester.  We suggested time for
shipping, classroom showing and week or 10 days for reserves.  We
calculated shipping time on both ends of the booking.  These were
educational documentaries, some of which were relatively popular.  We did
have to acquire duplicates of a few titles to support programs on multiple
campuses, but tried to get the faculty (within the same school) to
coordinate use where possible.

Good justification for multiple copies!
