Hi All,

For the last few years, I've been an active follower and minor contributor on
videolib. I want to thank everyone for their advice, input and recommendations
over that time period. I will be leaving Rutgers at the end of the week, but
will rejoin the videolib community in the next month or so when I settle into a
new position elsewhere.

Anyway, after some discussions at the 2014 NMM conference in Charleston, I was
asked to share some streaming license templates that we've pieced together,
using examples from electronic resource licensing, publicity releases and
deposit agreements from a variety of sources, and molding them into something
more purposed toward streaming video specifically. 'Streaming license -
template' is basically a working document that outlines the majority of our
ideal streaming terms. It is typically used as a reference point and/or to
formalize agreements with individual filmmakers or vendors. Many vendors are
happy to commit to such agreements informally via email, but sometimes we've
found that we prefer this formal agreement. It's always nice to have an option,
just in case. Further, 'Speaker deposit agreement' and 'Speaker release' are
tailored for recording events on campus and putting them into your repository.
These place the onus on the speakers to make sure their presentations are in
accordance with copyright and also give your institution the permission to use
what they say, their image, and the contents of any presentation files in a
non-exclusive but open access manner. We make each speaker sign both of these
forms, and try our very best to avoid any panorama shots that include the
general audience.

Please note that these aren't perfect, airtight legal documents. There are also
specific workflows based around them, so they are lacking some context as well.
They are merely templates and may have problematic language in them, depending
on how conservative/strict you are in your approach to fair use, copyright and
other legalese. For internal purposes, however, we have not had a problem with
them to date. I've also stripped some of their contents because I deemed
certain aspects/clauses specific to our unique situation here as irrelevant to
the larger listserv community.

I'll follow the discussion through the end of the week, but I'll away for a
month afterward. I'll be sure to email everyone with my new contact info once
I'm set up at my new gig so that I can field any questions that arise during
that interim.

Hope these are helpful. Enjoy the rest of the summer!

Best,

VIDEOLIB is intended to encourage the broad and lively discussion of issues
relating to the selection, evaluation, acquisition, bibliographic control,
preservation, and use of current and evolving video formats in libraries and
related institutions. It is hoped that the list will serve as an effective
working tool for video librarians, as well as a channel of communication
between libraries, educational institutions, and video producers and
distributors.
