One major reason to install msttcorefonts is to have full document compatibility between Debian Linux world and MS Windows world. This is especially the case for OpenOffice.org documents produced under either systems : if you want to render them without loss of formatting you are obliged to use the fonts that the majority of (Windows) users (e.g. Times New Roman, Arial, etc.), so the need for installation of msttcorefonts. Otherwise, it is not an obligation per se. The same problem stands for web pages in Vietnamese which mostly use (MS) font Times New Roman. The result is if Vietnamese users wants to use Debian and Debian-based like Ubuntu, it needs to install the MS true type core fonts. That's not a problem as long as you know you have to do it = nobody is perfect ;-) Cheers -- Vu Do Quynh Agence universitaire de la Francophonie - Bureau Asie Pacifique ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: Splunk Inc.
