This problem doesn't happen for me.
The string "Press SPACE to see more" comes from the custom
variable vm-page-continuation-glyph.
This gets used in vm-expose-hidden-headers if
custom variable vm-honor-page-delimiters is set.
It is nil in my configuration.
Please check the configuration of vm-honor-page-delimiters.
