sounds about right - thanks eugene.

i also remember mention of someone investigating south
american musicians for vestiges of the baroque - what
were the results, anyone know?

a kind gent' on the fretted friends site sent me a
collection of folk songs of new mexico - some of
which, the complier states, are european baroque in
origin.  the reference details are easy to get if
anyone is interested.
