I set it to "pablo" and inside "pablo" the "ctermbg" parameter for StatusLine read "ctermbg=12". Well, for whatever reason, "12" was interpreted as black or ignored as an invalid value. I changed it to "white" and everything started working correctly. I definitely learned something today :)
