Thanks Chip!
This worked great! Even a few issues that I hadn't mentioned are now

C: \Documents and Settings\
2) the ability to open a directory using :e H:\notes\ # now I

Netrw is a wonderful tool as is. Any suggestions on adding these
2 items back in would be greatly appreciated.
Hmm, as of v99, -complete=dir is used with the various Explore
commands. I suggest completely removing all
netrw scripts from wherever you've got them, then re-installing
netrw. My website has v103f, by the way.
(http://mysite.verizon.net/astronaut/vim/index.html#VimFuncs, look
for "Network Oriented Reading, Writing, and Browsing".
I'm afraid that I don't have any problem with the :e c:\cygwin\
style issue.
