As I understand it, the correct instructions won't be passed from the
terminal to Vim. I don't use gvim in Linux at all (I use console vim in
Linux and gvim in Windows). I select text with v V ^V too, I just play
with the mouse when I am bored and taking a break from the keyboard :)

Thanks for expanding on my bug report. I have explicitly added Bram to
this email, just to flag it to him.
