I too had problems with omnicomplete in Vim. Built-in functionality was only good for function auto-completions but not for data members. However, all problems were gone after I started using following script (http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1520). Read carefuly and follow instructions in doc directory! One additional note: If you are working with code written in C I suggest you rename after/ftplugin/cpp.vim to after/ftplugin/c.vim
