We don't really need ":sort" either. It's just that it's very
convenient to have sorting and floating point numbers for writing
scripts that manipulate text.
For myself, I often add up columns with amounts. Works easy for
integers, currently doesn't work for floating point (it's doable, but
a lot of work to implement and you get overflow/underflow problems).
