Vim has no problem reading from a pipe/fifo with the '-' option, but "vim <( command-writes-lots )", which does not affect stdin, fails when it tries to seek() a pipe/fifo. Whatever function under '-' that avoids seeking a pipe should also be triggered when vim opens a file and the stat says it is a FIFO. It should be a modest change. No vi ever had this problem.
