I'm not sure I know what you mean by echo being on. Adding "2>&1 > /dev/null" 
to the command doesn't make a difference. Also, running interactive commands 
with system() doesn't work as is. For example, 'echo system("rm -i ~/temp")' 
returns "rm: remove regular file ‘/Users/jniehus/temp?" and exits without 
allowing confirmation or removing the file (as opposed to running ":!rm -i 
~/temp" which does work interatively).
