Is it possible you have a second Monaco installed? Check font Book. You might 
also check exactly which monaco you have, maybe something like MS Office (or 
whatever) installed a different Monaco?

That said, I much prefer Menlo myself. I've even copied it to my 10.5 system to 
use as my monospace font.
