Though I'm not a Perl user, it sounds like you have ":" in your 
'iskeyword' setting.  This can be removed with

   set iskeyword-=:

If it's getting set by the filetype detection of perl-scripts, 
you may have to put that command in an "after" script to prevent 
it from being overridden.
