First off, thank you, guys, for your replies.

Let's say I'm trying to install George Dahn's moria color scheme
(http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=1464), now responding
to your comments:

1) ':echo $HOME' gives me '/home/rscoelho'
2) The permissions on the 'colors' directory and on the color scheme
files are both ok, and here's the output of ':version':

3) Yes, ':echo has("syntax")' returns 1, and here's my $HOME/.vimrc
file:

set incsearch
set ts=3
set shiftwidth=3
set number
set nocompatible
set backspace=indent,eol,start
set autoindent
set cursorline
set hlsearch
set history=50
set ruler
set showcmd

syntax on

filetype plugin indent on

4) After opening Vim (more precisely, non-GUI Vim), I type
":colorscheme moria", then I hit enter, and, again, nothing changes

5) In gVim, the weirdest thing is happening: new color schemes work
only if I type ':colorscheme <foo>' (where <foo> is one of the color
schemes that come with Vim) AND then ':colorscheme <new_color_scheme>'
