Try (untested) adding either
:language messages Japanese_Japan.932
or
:language messages Japanese_Japan.10646
It probably also makes a difference whether you put it in your vimrc
before or after setting 'encoding' to UTF-8: you will have to
experiment, as I cannot test it myself (I don't have a Windows box
anymore). In any case it should be before any of the following (only one
of which is usually present):
:filetype plugin on
:filetype plugin indent on
:runtime vimrc_example.vim
:source $VIMRUNTIME/vimrc_example.vim
Another possibility is to have all messages and popups come out in
English, by using
:language messages English_United States.1252
or maybe
:language messages English_United\ States.1252
(if one of them doesn't work, try the other).
