"Alt-tab" being the usual "switch to a different GUI application", or
some remapped thing in Vim? I.e. does Vim actually lose/regain focus
or are you just doing something within Vim?

Does it do this if you start Vim without any plugins or
customizations?

gvim -N -u NONE -i NONE
