Thank you for the reply Tony, and I appreciate the CC!

I'd like to note that the file is not being saved periodically every 800 ms.
Instead it is being saved 800 ms after I have stopped typing. I was hoping
Vim would not discard keystrokes that come in while it's saving the file.
Many other programs don't respond immediately to keystrokes when the system
is under stress, but the keystrokes don't get lost. They simply take effect
with a delay.

The point of using 800 ms is that if I stop typing and look at the PDF
previewer, the new version of the preview should appear very soon. Similar
to what Gummi does on Linux, except I'd prefer not to use Gummi for many
reasons (it doesn't work on Windows, and both its editor and PDF previewer
are considerable less usable than Vim and the pdf viewer I have)
