Wrong.

This shows the current setting, *AND WHAT SCRIPT MADE THAT SETTING HAPPEN*.

The next time you see a textwidth setting you don't want, run this command to 
see where it was set to that value.

Then it is easy to zap the bad setting. It would be much harder to prevent or 
overwrite the setting without knowing what is setting it in the first place.

My guess is you have a filetype plugin or autocmd firing. But I obviously have 
no way of knowing which one that might be on YOUR system.
