*Does not repro with Vim 8*. Looks like the bug was fixed. Yay! I confirmed by downloading and compiling version 8.0 (2016 Sep 12, compiled Aug 18 2017 16:16:46) with patches: 1-586 from here <http://www.vim.org/download.php#unix>.
