I've been busy, sorry.

It seems the patch fix the problem: Now "Ctrl-Q" and "\" work!

Finally I've installed 1.4.1 (I was using 1.4.0 because of this
problem).  I'll try all keymaps.

I see what the patch does, but I don't understand why only certain
dead-key combinations failed (e.g. "Ctrl-Q" failed t but "Ctrl-X'
worked).
