Yes, all of the 68K LC All-In-Ones have interchangeable logicboards,
except the 580 (which is interchangeable with all of the 5xxx & 6xxx
boards). The 520 is a step up from the CC, but a step below the CC II
(which is the same as the 550). The Mac TV board also works nicely in
the CC. The analogue board is essentially the same too, but it has
mostly unnecessary borders that are used to mount it inside the wider
chassis.

"Fat" is sort of the right word as it looks like it has love
handles. ;-) If the designers hated the original design, they must
have really been upset with the 580 which swapped the sleek Sony
Trinitron with a cheaper bulbous shadow-mask. It also warped the 5200
design, which was intended to use the Trintron tube  as well, but
Apple ended their deal with Sony. The designers could just not catch a
break during the Sculley/Spindler era.

P.S. I doubt you can "Snopes" that story. But it does come out of a
highly respected source: Paul Kunkel's "Apple Design", now out of
print.
