Sorry I had to delay this. I needed to dig out certain facts before
moving on to this set.

There are three working computers for sale.

One is a PowerBook 180. It starts and runs fine. No missing pixels.
B&W screen, of course. The working battery (rechargeable) died and was
recycled a long time ago, so it runs on a power supply plugged into
120 v. ... a "wall wart". This comes with three "wall warts". One is
new and still in the original box. Two have been used. As with many of
these, the door on the back (covering places to plus in accessories)
broke off a long time ago. I have it, but don't see a way of putting
it back on. I've used this PB180 quite a lot. It's been a
pleasure.

Another is a PowerBook 520. It starts and runs fine, with no missing
pixels. Screen is B&W, not color (not a 520c). As with the PB180, the
rechargeable battery (Metal Hydride) died
and went to be recycled. So it, too, runs on a "wall wart".
I have two "wall warts" for this computer. They are not the same as
the ones for the PB180. The PB520 is in its original packaging, with
all accessories. It has been used very little
so it's just like factory-new. I bought this in a moment of passion
while working in Calif. at a Mac store and had buyers regret soon
thereafter. Reason? I really didn't need it and was "hooked" on the
PB180. I've suffered guilt pangs ever since. Fortunately I was
working as a consultant (contractor) so I could write it off as a
business expense. It's a good computer, neglected, and needs a home
where it will be used and appreciated.

The third computer is one that I gave to my grandson and he gave it
back to me when his parents gave him a much faster box for his
birthday. He's a gamer. It's a tower... a Quadra 800/Power PC 601.
That's the label that's on it as it came from the factory. I
originally bought it from a friend. I've used it in my office, but
it's been in storage for several years. It has one PRAM cell; I put a
new one in it last week and it started and runs just fine.

Now, what is a Quadra 800/Power PC 601 anyhow? You may not be able to
find this on the internet or anywhere else. My understanding of it is
this. This computer was born about the time the 601 chip became
available. Many people had software written for quadra chips. So...
somebody at Apple came up with the idea of putting both chips in this
box.
(As I said, this is my understanding of it. Correct me if you have
insight I don't have.) There's software in there that lets the user
easily switch between "quadra" and 601. Of course
you have to turn it off and let it reboot after making the change. I
have the manual that came with it. It's for a Quadra 800, and doesn't
mention the 601 chip. One more time... this is my understanding of
how this dual capability came about.

I like this computer, but have one problem with it. Don't laugh, but
the several old Macs I still use (Mac IIsi) are using the 6.0.8 OS.
Go ahead an laugh and get it over with. The Quadra/601 won't live
with anything less than OS 7.6 or something like that. I have a lot
of software that won't tolerate OS 7.0 or higher. I hate to part
with this one, but can't afford to re-write all my software (math,
statistical) and move into the new century. (I write all of my own
code.)

This computer is loaded with extensions and games. Teenage grandsons
are like that. I suspect that's why at startup it gets off to a slow
start. I haven't had the nerve to do a major housecleaning, so it
comes with games.

There may be yet another computer (a IIx) yet to come. As it stands it
will not start up. I have some thoughts on why, and will swap some of
those components (notably the PS) and see if that does the trick. The
internal HD was a challenge when I last used it. It was suffering from
"stiction" (bearings "sticking" and/or friction.) I'll try one of
those extra (for sale) internal HDs with this one.

OK, so the current lineup is...

PB 180 $40 plus shipping expenses

PB 520 $50 plus shipping expenses

Quadra 800/Power PC 601 $60 plus shipping expenses.

Regarding shipping, when shipping computers and other breakable
devices my experience with UPS has been this.
Once you declare "it's a computer" their eyebrows come up and out
comes the box cutter. They open it up and inspect the packaging. They
are seldom satisfied. (Actually never, in my experience.) So I would
like to take these to an "UPS Store" and let them do the packaging. It
costs more, but it's almost a requirement with UPS and breakable
things.

As before, payment by Money Orders preferred.
