On the Mac Plus, (don't know if the SE/30 is similar) there are two
resistors which are involved in the focus control which often fail.
So the situation goes something like: Focus is bad, user adjusts
focus, adjustment makes no difference, possibility branches from here
depending on whether user has the resources to discover the resistors.
But in this case, because it's only middle of the screen, I think
folks' suggestions about EM interference is a good thing to check.
Usually, when the focus adjustment is off, the edges are more out of
focus than the center.
