ISTR an old article about connecting a PC bus mouse to a Mac. The original Mac 
mouse is "dumb". It's just a switch and a pair of rotary encoders. The "smarts" 
for it are in the computer. Not surprising when the original mouse invented at 
Xerox PARC worked that way.

ADB, Serial, PS/2 and USB mice are "smart", their processing is in the mouse.
