Just in case you're feeling masochistic, there is an mp3 player for 68k Macs at http://www.jwgdesign.com/mpegdec/
With the downsampling sufficiently high I can listen to mp3s on a Powerbook 520c without it slowing down enough to be completely useless and decent enough audio quality through the built-in speakers.
I also tried it on a 50mhz 68030 upgraded IIci and it appeared to be working fine, but it has audio problems thanks to bad caps so I couldn't tell if it was actually playing or not.
