This is a hard one to answer exactly, because it all depends on what you had left in the machine on purchase, so I will be long-winded.
I found one of these without any sort of ink container at all installed. I discovered that it needed both a carrier for the inktanks and the inktanks. I found the carrier for the inktanks on eBay with just a little trouble after looking well. The inktanks themselves are ubiquitous on eBay and generally very inexpensive. There was also a Canon-branded sister model for the 2200, like many of the StyleWriters, for which go a-googling, and this helps in the quest. The printhead is definitely built into these printers, down on the sliders mounted transversely across the machine. The printhead in my 2200 was easily renewed by dropping some rubbing alcohol onto it through a straw. I seem to recall that I partially disassembled the machine after removing power while the inkhead was in the middle, and used a paper towel to soak up excess rubbing alcohol/ diluted ink. It's messy, but I let it soak in, blew through the straw, applied some more, etc. Worked a treat, and the machine works fine now still three or more years on, though it is not used much any more. I also used "Rubber Renue" on the rollers, which fixed an irritating paper feed issue. After rehab, it's a very nice little printer, which goes well with my PowerBook 2400c and my MessagePad 2100, both of which I still use regularly. But I tend to use an old LaserWriter for most printing needs; the 2000 mainly sits on a shelf. It also uses Canon inks, by the way, if you want to find a old syringe- and-needle-based refill kit. It has the easiest tanks to refill that certainly I have encountered: you take the tank out, and you can literally see the sponge, which soaks up the ink really easily. No holes to drill or plugs to remove or anything else. I wish they still made them that way....
