o.k.
just loaded up appleworks 3.0
(do not know what version you have)
on the main menu there is other activities entry

under main menu is: change current disk......
default is disk1 (slot 6).
you can change it to: disk 2 (slot 6)
from the menu list under change current disk
now you can format the disk in the second disk drive.
another entry is: format a blank disk
that will erase and format a 5.25 disk

now to copy one disk to another:
you need a prodos boot disk
with utilities

I can copy appleworks 3.0 to two separate disks
and/or send a copy of prodos that will copy disks..

and send to you

The thing is once the AppleWorks is up and running I can read things. I can
even read a novella I wrote using an Apple III and a daisy wheel printer.

hi;
not sure what you have on both sides on the appleworks disk
but hopefully some version of prodos is on the first side

then:
Start up the ProDOS User's Disk.
Press F (for ProDOS Filer <UTILITIES>)
Press V (for VOLUME COMMANDS).
Press C (for COPY A VOLUME).
there should be entry on the utilities menu to format disks.

see:

for more information..

Thanks for the info on Iomega. Now back even farther. I have a working
Apple II e with a duo disk drive (working) and about a dozen or so
floppy disks. What I want to know is how to burn disks. I have an
AppleWorks disk that I need to put in the drive and take out and turn
it over and reinsert it several times. If I have two disks I can put
both in a drive and voila it works and then I can write and read a
good 140 KB (wow) Any ideas ?
