Old printers for Macintosh don't use ADB, they use the serial ports. ADB connectors are mini DIN 4, identical to S-Video connectors and S-Video cables work perfectly in place of ADB cables. (I used a 10 foot S-Video cable with a IIci so I could sit across the living room from the Mac.)
Macintosh serial ports are RS-422 protocol and are mini DIN 8. Later models had mini DIN 9 connectors with the extra pin providing power used by the GeoPort "modem" (actually a Digital Signal Processor emulating a modem rather poorly), a few real modems and some other devices.
