Hi,
I have already recapped several of my Mac Classic I/II, SE/30 and Mac Portable logic boards with Aluminium SMD capacitors in the past, like they were originally. However given radial caps won't last as long as Tantalum one's, I would like to use these in future projects. I've been looking on the Digikey website for Tantalum one's and there are several brands available. What would be the best one to buy ? I was thinking of Kemet, the T491 series. Are these a good choice ? The only thing that I'm afraid of when swapping from Aluminium radial to Tantalum is that the ESR value of the Tantalum one's is much lower than the original Aluminium Radial caps. Would this be an issue as I'm wondering why Apple didn't use Tantalum in the first place. On the Mac IIFx logic board one can see that on some positions Apple used Tantalum caps where on others the classic Aluminium Radial one's. I assume there must be a reason for this..
