Yup, that was Daystar. Prior to the IIci all of Daystar's upgrades were custom 
designed for each model of Macintosh. At minimum they required removal of the 
CPU. Some also required removing the FPU if installed and IIRC the Mac II 
upgrade required removal of the MMU or PMMU chip because the 030 had the PMMU 
built in.

After the release of the IIci, Daystar made all their upgrades for 68000, 020 
and 030 Macs fit the IIci type slot and for any Mac that wasn't a IIci, IIvi, 
IIvx or Performa 600 it required an adapter which plugged in the same as their 
previous single model upgrades.

Some of those adapters are extremely rare. Just try and find an 030 PowerCache 
adapter for the LCII. IIsi adapters are pretty common.
