The shredded part enrages me. I saved the equivalent of 8 pallets of just Mac stuff while at (insert name of local recycler here). They promptly eliminated the bulk of it after my departure.
To me, recycling relatively recent Mac and PC computers can be OK when they're too costly to fix and re-use. First order of importance with Vintage and Classic machines is refurbish for modding or restoring. I think the rise of large-scale electronics recycling (as opposed to reuse) and people's fear that someone will steal things from their old hard drive if they give it away has really taken a toll on supply. I think a majority of the old Macs we love are now in the hands of collectors or have been shipped to China and shredded for raw materials.
