Ok, so, I got a 3.6V 1/2AA from Radio Shack. I clipped out the old battery
from it's posts, and soldered in 1/8 inch square copper strips to them to
make new terminals, and slipped the battery in.This got me nowhere,
although I read a good 3.3V across the voltmeter when contacting the two
terminals and not the actual battery. In addition, using the battery in
place with the "jump start" with a wire on the connector to the power
supply trick from the video, it starts just fine. There must be something
wrong within the motherboard itself preventing preventing the transmission
of the battery power to the power supply. I know that the switch itself on
the back of the machine is functional because pressing it when the machine
is on will turn it off. I'll get a few pictures posted tomorrow of all of
this. I have a suspicion that it is the capacitors, as though I don't see
"goop" around them, there seems to be a "ring of corroded terminals" around
each of them with some green tint. I think this is probably the root of all
of my problems. Some of the IC feet even have some of the green on them. It
looks like the capacitors have done this one in so far, and are probably
the reason for no sound output, and no power on via the switch.

Any other ideas?
