We have a successful hacker space here with "circuit hacking Monday " has occasionally had class on surface mount soldering … didn't think needed much skill beyond basic circuit board which I learned 20+ years ago but now not so sure… Yes I did get several 1/2 AA batteries this week they were 50¢ ! Especially important for 475/605 as they won't start without a good one.
