It was dubbed ‘DV’ because it had Firewire ports and iMovie software. They made
a big thing of being able to connect your new DV cam, import your file to Mac,
edit the footage and then send it back to the cam.

I had a DV+ and it came with a built-in DVD drive. Also at the time iTools was
new on the scene, and, if you could not afford a CDRW, you could upload your
‘edited in iMovie' footage to your iTools account & distribute it that way.

So that’s what Apple meant by terming their iMacs ‘DV’ at the time; Firewire +
iMovie.

Many thanks,
          Matt
