My latest thrift find is a Performa 575 CPU, Cost me $10...odd
thing, the same store also had an LC575 nearby, the Power supply fan
venting was ripped out and it lacked any SIMMs or a PRAM battery, plus it
wouldn't power up (no chime, I'm guessing because of the lack of memory
and/or battery,) yet it was priced at about $20. The P575 powered up and
greeted me with a puzzled floppy, CDROM drawer wouldn't respond either.

But all that meant to me was I now have my 575 board to revive my
dead Color Classic. =^) And a bigger HD to upgrade the stock 80meg and
a CDROM and floppy should I decide to strip those.

...on that note, anyone on Oahu (...uh, Lee?) wants a free P575 shell?
No motherboard, no HD, may or may not have a floppy and CDROM. RF
shielding along the bottom is a bit rusted.

As with all old CPUs I pick up, I checked out what's on the HD.
Nothing really special, most of the default apps that come with the
machine. Oddly the Hard Drive was "empty" and the System folder and
Finder were all over the place. Also found a bunch of papers someone
wrote two years ago, with an email address...kinda tempted to write
the person and see what kind of problems they had with the machine. =^)

Anyway, I popped the board into my CC, just to see if it would
fly as is. *bong* Startup screen. Bus Error. Tried it again with the
7.5 Disk Tools disc, same result. oh, well, time to go looking up the
pages on it and bugging the people on the Vintage Macs list. =^)

I know there's web pages out there that have written on the
subject, but if memory serves me, many are in funky Japanized English.
Thus in the meantiem I thought I'd pick the minds of people here who have
done it.
