DiskCopy images work quite well for this.  Why make them read/write, 
it's supposed to be a CD-ROM.  I've created compressed read-only 
images of CD-ROMs and then shared the mounted image.  I also use 
mounted images of CD-ROMs on a PB5300 since it has no CD drive (but 
does have a 20Gb HD).

Apple's DiskCopy is included in later OS installs.
