I'm not on the Compacts list, so please forgive my posting here.

I just got an SE and SE FDHD together for cheap, on eBay. The SE was
listed as not working but only had a disconnected power cable at the
board. When connected, it booted fine off a working 20 MB Miniscribe. I
wish everything was that simple.

The FDHD works but the 1.4 MB drives will only accept 800k disks. After
verifying that the drives were in fact 1.4 MB, I checked the board and
confirmed that it had the FDHD board jumper arrangement for upgrading
RAM. I checked The Mac SE Support Pages and found chip numbers that
don't seem to Jibe with what this board should have. The chips on this
board are:

HI ROM 342-0352-A
LO ROM 342-0353-A
IWM 344-0043-A

Did somebody swap chips or am I overlooking a more simple reason why
these drives won't live up to their potential (My father never did
figure that one out about me)?
